The 1950s
Boppin' Bob Recalls the 50's

It was a keen scene as Betty Lou wore your ring on a chain around her neck. You strolled with your little darlin' across the floor at the Saturday night hop. Everybody liked Ike, Bret Maverick and Wire Paladin.

This cat Elvis was everywhere, at the flicks, on the tube, and comin' out of the hi-fi.  Doo-wop ditty dittys were a great background for watchin' the submarine races and neckin' in the moonlight.

As a kid growing up, the only thing worse than being called a communist was to be branded a square. Your little brother liked Davy Crockett and your sister liked hula hoops, but your scene was hangin' out at the drive-in watchin' the chicks or meeting the guys.

If academia was your thing, the G.E. College Bowl was not to be missed. What was the answer to the $64,000 question? When it all came down, the quiz shows were rigged.

This Castro guy came into Cuba and the Russians put this fellow named Kruschev into office.  It seemed like it would never end, but as Cookie used to say on "77 Sunset Strip, "Drat, I'm the saddest like a dream." Especially when Holly, Valens and the Big Bopper cut out.

At least I can still hear 'em on my 45's.
