It's not unusual to see an air personality end up in the technical/engineering side of the business. After all, many AM stations for years required a jock to have an FCC 1st Class License. One of those guys is Bill Croghan. The long-time radio vet got his start in New York State at stations like WCVF, Fredonia (1962) and WDOE, Dunkirk (1963). In '64, Bill moved on to WBUF in Buffalo. The following year (1965), Bill did double duty at WAPC/Riverhead & WPAC/Patchogue, NY. Later in '65, Bill embarked on a 4-year stint as an electronics instructor for the US Air Force. As the 60's gave way to the new decade, Croghan added News Director to his resume at KRLN in Canon City, Colorado. In 1971, he performed the same duties at KEXO.
Later in '71, Bill Croghan did news on radio and TV at KRDO, Colorado Springs. After a brief stint at KPIK in the same town in '73, Bill left the business to do photography. Ah, but the old radio bug bit him again in '75. This time, Croghan came back as an engineer. Starting at KKTV in Colorado Springs, Bill then worked at KHOW in Denver (The Alan Berg/Harry Smith/Doubleday era) in '77, as well as KIMN & KYGO in the same market. By 1980, Croghan was exclusively in radio engineering. After all, someone needed to keep the erector set humming. Croghan landed a gig with Jefferson-Pilot in '80 where he's worked over the years. Today, Bill Croghan is Chief Engineer at KOMP/KXPT/KENO & KBAD in Las Vegas.
