Southwest Baltimore, Maryland, USA was a region like no other. Those who lived within the 21223 zip code back in the old days, only ventured out of the neighborhood for trips to the beach, visits to the Stadium or Civic Center, or to see relatives who wouldn't come to see us.
This humble blue-collar working class community had more characters than you could shake a stick at. Even more impressive, nobody tried to put on a show. It all came naturally.
Here is a one hour nostalgic parody I put together back in 2014. 'Goin' Back to Dan's' is a fantasy return to the local sub shop known for great pizza, platters and foot long subs. Dan Brennan's epicurean emporium also served as the social and cultural center throughout the 60's and 70's at Lehman Street and Millington Lane. Dan's served as a restaurant and a hangout for many of these characters.
Some of the people mentioned here have passed on since then. In tribute to this wondrous group, we decided to post this. If you're from 21223, you'll relate to the program. If not, you'll connect this in some way to your growing up days.
